How to know if a Prophecy is from
God
In the age that we are in, the high importance of
judging prophecy to know its validity is needed due to the level of deceptions
going on. Therefore in this chapter we shall be discoursing how to know if a
prophecy from a prophet or someone or a dream is from God.
i. 1. It must be in accordance to the written word of God
The bible is the first and final authority to judge
any prophecy. This is because God has subjected all of His creatures to His
Word, and not only that, he has also subjected himself to His Word.
Psalm 119:89 “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled
in heaven.”
Gal. 2:18 For if
I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. (KJV)
Instances
of Dreams or visions or revelations from anybody that contradicts the bible:
a. Any dream or revelation that tells you to divorce is clearly against the bible.
a. Any dream or revelation that tells you to divorce is clearly against the bible.
b. Any dream or
revelation that tells you to marry more than one wife
c. Any dream or revelation that tells you to stay alone with a man or woman that is not your wife or husband in the night
d. Any dream or revelation that tells you to steal for the sake of the gospel
e. Any dream or revelation that tells you sleep with someone you are not married to
f. Any dream or revelation that tells you bury live animal in your land or place of worship for whatever reason
g. Any dream or revelation that tells you to bow down to any image
h. Any dream or revelation that gives you numbers or names for gambling and betting
i. Any dream or revelation that tells you to only pray and not spend time studying the bible
j. Any dream or revelation that tells you not to take care of your parents or those in your care
k. Any dream or revelation that tells you not to involve in preaching of the gospel
l. Any dream or revelation that tells you that such revelation is beyond the bible
As important as it is to confirm prophecy with the bible, your knowledge of the scriptures is more important. This is because you cannot be able to judge a prophecy accurately when you don’t know what the bible says on that subject matter. Therefore, read and study your bible so as to know what God is saying to the church.
How can you judge a prophecy that you know nothing about in the Scripture or that is difficult for you to comprehend from the scripture?
a. You can pray fervently about it until you get the interpretation.
b. You can spend quality time with God’s Word and resource materials from proven ministers of the Gospel in the area of concern.
c. You can take the vision or revelation to a Christian with higher experiences in God.
c. Any dream or revelation that tells you to stay alone with a man or woman that is not your wife or husband in the night
d. Any dream or revelation that tells you to steal for the sake of the gospel

i. 2. It must bring glory to Christ, not the prophet or
self
John 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive
of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
Rev.19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And
he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy
brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of
Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
The HolySpirit will not reveal anything that will
not glory Christ. Once a prophecy start bringing attention to the prophet and
not pointing to Jesus, it should be disregarded. Jesus is our message. Even if
the prophecy is directed to the prosperity of the receiver, the manner and
attitude that it being said must glorify Christ otherwise the spirit of error
may step in.
iii. The Prophecies must
Produce Liberty of spirit not Bondage
Rom.8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of
bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we
cry, Abba, Father.
2 Cor.3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where
the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Liberty here means freedom within you. The word from
the Lord even if it is for rebuke or correction, it comes with inner peace that
you can’t describe.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give
unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be
troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Peace
is an acid test to discovering the validity of any prophecy.
