The Worthy Intercessor (Part 3): BECOMING A WORTHY INTERCESSOR
Message: The Worthy Intercessor (Part 3) by Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Innocent
BECOMING A WORTHY INTERCESSOR:
Rev. 5:2 KJV And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
In the realms of the Spirit, it is who is worthy that takes possession, not position, office nor titles. Worthy means one having weight or one who has merited anything. A worthy intercessor is one who has weight in the spirit realms to bind and loose at will.
In the above scripture, when John the beloved heard of it, he wept much because he thought that there was no one worthy to open the book. The same cry is going on; who is worthy to take the gate of this city for Christ? John Knox cried out, Give me Scotland or I die. Such is the reply of one who seeks to be worthy.
There is a cry in the streets. Anytime God wants to do something on the earth, He cries out for a man, not just a man but a worthy intercessor.
Ezekiel 22:30-31, Isaiah 59:16. When He doesn't find a man, He wonders. Heaven weeps when there is no man worthy to stand in the gap.
Judgment is a result of failed intercessor or no intercession. God wants to show mercy but would not do that because His Word resists Him from showing mercy where there is no mediator.
Job 33:18-28, we see the life that has been set for hell and to the destroyer but Job cried out that if that condemned soul has a messenger, interpreter who stands for him, God will be gracious to the condemned person and deliver him from the pit. Why? Because a ransom has been found. Hallelujah! Jesus is that ransom. When the worthy intercessor arises, he cries out a ransom has been found and pleads for the people. Therefore, a worthy intercessor is a messenger and an interpreter. He brings God to the people (messenger) and presents the people to God (interpreter).
Mathematically: MEDIATOR = MESSENGER + INTERPRETER. INTERCESSOR = MEDIATOR.
An intercessor is one among a thousand. He is not common. Nevertheless, to command authority in the spirit realms, you must become a worthy one. This is what differentiates between intercessors. One can be praying for a matter for years but another comes into the matter, and it is done.
Below are specific attributes an intercessor must have to be a worthy intercessor:
1. Faithfulness - 1 Cor. 4:2.
Can God trust you with lives as a watchman? Are you dependable? Ezek. 3:17-19. Can God give you a revelation about a dying person, and trust you will rise up to pray through? Some of us have failed in this regard, and many lives have been lost. A faithful intercessor is one who is committed to respond anytime the call for intercession is made. He or she doesn't own themselves.
Isaiah 62:6-7. A faithful intercessor doesn't keep silent until he fulfills his mission. On & Off intercession will not make you worthy to fill the gap of a mediator. Jesus is always making intercession for us, so also we must make it a duty to stay in intercession for the people committed to us.
If you look at Ezek. 22:30 again in TPT, you will see two criteria God called worthy. One is someone who would repair the wall, while the other is one who fills the gap. To fill the gap means he or she is a faithful intercessor. He is already in duty with capacity and knowledge to execute his priestly assignment judiciously.
How to become a Faithful Intercessor:
a. You must be willing:
God doesn't force people into this calling. This is an honourable call. When He calls you, you must willingly accept. This means, you prepare your heart to obey Him. Ezek. 7:10, Isaiah 1:19a. A prepared heart is a willing heart.
b. You must be obedient:
It is not enough to be willing, you must be one who carries out instructions.
c. You must be Consistent:
Obedience done consistently is what makes a faithful person. You can't be hot today, cold tomorrow. That kind of intercessory life cannot put you in command of territories. Rev. 3:15-16, Isaiah 62:7.
2. Holiness:
You certainly cannot be worthy, living in sin. You will corrupt your priesthood like Joshua the high priest did in Zech. 3.
If you are faithful but not keeping the faith, you cannot be worthy. Holiness unto the LORD is an irrevocable requirement. A constant repentance and godly living will make you worthy. 1 Cor. 6:14-16.
3. Training:
Faithfulness is good, holiness is better but the two can only make you effective but not efficient.
1 Tim. 3:6. We are commanded to not place a novice as a Bishop. So also, to be a worthy intercessor, you must be well-trained and skilled in the ministry of intercession. This book is the reason for this. You must master the different kinds of prayers, when to use which; also you must understand these subjects: demonology, spiritism, angelology, eschatology, pneumatology, anthropology and the Eternal States of Man.
Accurate and elaborate knowledge in intercessory ministry will put you in an advantageous place over one who is only faithful and holy. What it will take them years to achieve, a trained intercessor will accomplish it in less time. Moreover, being trained will make you not ignorant of spiritual protocols, and also, avoid some unnecessary spiritual attacks and damages. Training is key. It equips you with relevant knowledge.
Shalom.
